 Do you want your newspaper to put news around your locality in a separate section? Or may be a different version of paper for each locality? What would you do when you are in a new locality? Or temporarily want news from other locality, say around your work? How about getting some pretty good discounts for that Team-outing of yours and some tap on the shoulder from your boss? Or a dinner date in a uptown restaurant, which has discount just for you?

All of these are possible, and ready to use on the fly, if you own an Android device and have TaazzaGo installed! TaazzaGO is an app that concentrates on Hyperlocal news i.e. News around you! It covers 40 cities in India, and Hundreds of localities in each city. Apart from hyperlocal news, it also gives you city news, Deals around you and weather.

TaazzaGO is highly interactive. The first time you start the app, you get to set your location, which can be changed afterward as many times as required. Once set, you are taken to the main screen of TaazzaGO which has got 4 tabs. On the top left corner, you get to see the weather at your location.


The first tab shows you the city news. The second one is for local news, along with some deals available around. The third tab shows you only deals around. While the news items shows the source and time along with the title on City News Tab, they show distance from you on the Nearby tab, and Deals do the same.


On click of these items You are taken to the details screens where you can see the location and a read more link for news, for deals you get a new screen with 4 more tabs saying Overview, Details, Outlet and reviews which do what they say. You also get a buy button to buy the deal.


The Cities tab on the main screen shows you the cities whose news is available, and click on that shows you the news for that city.


There is also a neat option of map, where you can see the news tagged on map. Other features include sharing on FB or Twitter, saving the news etc.

1. UI Sometimes hangs while loading.
2. Not really designed for landscape use.
3. Not many Deal Providers. (Update : Seems my location doesn't have that many deals, so I can't see other deal providers.)

Logcat, DDMS, TraceView are the Devs best friend. Strictmode API also helps build quality, as it catches the Disk and Network access in the UI thread, helping remove the ANRs. MonkeyRunner generates pseudo random events. Good for stress testing. Motodev Studio sports mem analyzer, App Validator, Integrated Emulator which improve the productivity even more.
