Bangalore Android Group meetup

02:50 PM

Video Address by Randy Ksar : 5 mins

Some trouble in audio devices.
Bhavya tries to get the audience talk, but doesn't succeed.

Suggestions coming in : More code intensive
Off line Collaboration
Form groups

Still no sign of video though. May be the Youtube URL can be shared.

Finally Bhavya tells us that she will share the URL.

Thanks to Strumsoft.

Neeraj's Session : Android Content Provider : 20 Mins (supposedly)
(Last but one session)
Content providers are the only way to share data across apps.
Various content providers being Browser, Catlog, Media Store etc.
Question from Strumsoft cofounder : Who does the data processing, Content provider or the app?

URIs are used to connect to the CPs.

URIs are defined something like

A. Standard prefix content://
B. Authority , means the content provicer
C. What kind of data
D. The record being requested

So there are basically 3 ways to use CPs

1. use the CPs as is.
2. Modify the CP
3. Write your own CP (oh how I love this one!)(I should have been a C Dev rather than a java Dev)

For non ARM based development, do vitrualisation.

Oh Cool, the presentation is over!

Questions that come is how to generate the CD images.
Things are getting interactive now.

02:20 PM

Snacks Break almost over

02:10 PM

Snacks Break

01:28 PM

Sandeep : on BONDI

BONDI was presented in MWC too!
Sandeep will talk about Mobile Web 2.0 and BONDI in it.
Seems BONDI brings the Desktop Browser features to Mobile.

Challenges described by Sandeep: send a webpage as MMS, save a contact from facebook etc etc (on your mobile)

BONDI doesn't require a browser. Can run, will fetch only the relevant info (eg Open Cnn.com on browser vs get the news you want on an app)(save bandwidth)

Questions that arise : if we need a lot of widgets, its of no use. Sandeep agrees. But then, you really won't require so many widgets.

BONDI Widgets vs other Widgets is like Java Vs C++
Write once run anywhere.

Its obvious that Bondi does use WebView. Also uses JavaScript libraries and WebKit.
Sandeep now is demoing a few widgets.

01:18 PM

Rajan : from MOMOB : the marketing guys

This guy seems funny! (Marketing and fun? Oh No!)
Now the marketting kicks in!

The questions that gives it all "Why develop apps?"

Ppl shout Lear, fun, earn, geekiness, Chicks!
People now talking about ways of making money.

Its getting boring (I can bear it, if he can atleast gift me a T-shirt!)
Not related to Android at all. Though its good that he is sharing his views, and interesting views.

His event is on March 27th, same day as IPL3 match Blore vs Delhi. (I can't miss IPL3, I booked the tickets!)

Event registration : www.momob.in

00:41 PM

Debtaru Presentation : Tips and Tricks

Deb seems to be a command line guy! (Remember "Bad Command or filename from DOS???")
Deb is now showing Android Database (SQLite3)

Its getting fun here.

Now onto the skeleton of an Android project.

Install a APK from command line : adb install
(People ask what need to be done to hasten up the bootup of emulator, Deb says get a better machine with better config!)

Now onto create a keys from keystore.
Questions from Strumsoft cofounder about why we need keys and the automation testing.

Seems Deb is done with his presentation.
(He got a Android T-Shirt from his wife, Geeky wife I say!)

00:35 PM

Coffee Break
Did talk to the Engg student with a galaxy in his hand(MIB anyone?)

00:25 PM

sorry for the non coverage. The net connection dies here very often.

In the meanwhile, people fought over C++ / Java and many other things, and people too started interacting. Sounds very nice when you see some many likeminded people around!

11:55 AM

Building Blocks

People are now fighting over licenses!

11:49 AM

Srini : "Sony Experia X10 is very good on UI"

Android : Robust kernel on Linux2.6
Efficient DVM
C/C++ Core activities library.
Reusable application framework

Its OPEN!

11:40 AM

Srinivas is the first speaker today. Now he is showing some videos (He says they are inspirational!)

The first video is about Nexus One.
Srini :"Android is not only for mobiles, it is for a lot of devices"

11:37 AM

After a lot of toil, the WiFi has started working finally.

The intro has just completed, and to my surprise, a few college students have also shown up!

Hey nice summary, by the way BONDI widgets are similar to other web mobile widgets. Java/c++ comparison doesn't fit here. Web widgets are not tbe confused with the android widgets.
